Last demos for the last (5) days of the DJ contest – mUZIC.radio festival

4 artists selected out of 50+ audio files received, in all formats (dj-set, track or live-act), frankly that gives hope, doesn’t it ? Downtempo, deep house, dark or melodic techno, home-made productions: we listened to demos of all kinds, for all tastes.

Before presenting in detail the winners selected by the UZIC programming team and the committee of DJ experts to play at one of the 8 DJ events in Lausanne and Geneva (Switzerland) from 18 August to 16 September 2025, we’d like to remind DJs that there are less than 5 days left to send in their dj-set, track or live-act here. NB: after sending music, don’t forget to send the registration form at the same time (so we know who we’re dealing with šŸ˜‰

Without further ado, here are our first impressions after all that listening. Since UZIC will soon be celebrating its quarter-century (Gosh!) what has changed in terms of demo tapes and listening habits over the last few years?

Hey, Mister DJ…

First point, and not the least: what hasn’t really changed. Out of 54 audio files sent in, 5 were submitted by female DJs… and in the end there were only 3 of them in action (thanks to Mylkyway for throwing in 3 killer sets!). In short, while the proportion of male DJs remains overwhelming, it’s worth pointing out that 2 female DJs were selected thanks to their outstanding choice of music and the quality of their mixes.

It’s Deep, stupid!

Almost everything has gone deep. The trouble we used to go to in the old days to differentiate one ā€œminimal-dubā€ track from another ā€œdeep-houseā€ is over. Easy now: below 135 BPM, it’s team Deep ; above that, team Techno.

No music download

What a hassle it is to find dj-sets for download! Between,

  • platforms like Wetransfer that allow nowadays 4 days for a free, no-obligation download ;
  • artists who decide – or don’t know – to make their mixes available for download on Soundcloud ;
  • illegal downloading, which has gradually been replaced by streaming solutions such as Spotify ;

it has become harder to get music for download.

Audiences

A nice surprise in conclusion: while UZIC radio has always enjoyed checking out with artists and listeners from all over the world – so far mostly residing in Belgium, Germany, Hungary, Peru, Russia or Switzerland – what a surprise to see Swiss artists, on both the French and German sides, taking part in this DJ contest!

At the mUZIC.radio festival, more than 20 artists will be present in Lausanne or Geneva, on FM radio and over the Internet to get heads nodding and bodies moving live. Take advantage, it’s free: both the live events and listening to this great underground sound. Enjoy.
